3rd part: Exploration Glitch from inside the cave
NOTE: There is a different version of the following clip which requires less frame perfect inputs. See the Citrus clip page for the inputs. Simply tap < along the slope to find the starting coordinate (OR SOMEONE CAN PUT THEM RIGHT HERE)

Hold <v into the corner to position Link

Spanda's favorite squid

Phases
On the first phase, Arrghus will have smaller "puffs" surrounding it. Each puff has 8 HP. It will have any remaining puffs orbit around the boss arena in an attempt to damage Link.

On the second phase, the main eye of Arrghus will be open to attacks. It will spring into the air and crashes onto the ground.

Strategy
By itemdashing, you can easily remove multiple puffs with the Hookshot and Pegasus Boots on the same frame when you enter the boss fight.

On the second phase of the fight, pause the game and switch to the Fire Rod. Fire it in the bottom of the room, nearby the shutters as soon as Arrghus lands. With enough practice, you can easily zero-cycle it.

Hovering is used to get across gaps that you'd normally fall into.

You can see an example of a 1:30min hover done by Malibukennn .

How to perform it
To do this, you must hold the A button, release it for only one frame, and then repress the A button on the next frame.

You can hold the A button between releasing it, but if you hold it for too long (30f or more), Link will finish charging a dash and you will fall. If you release the A button for more than 1 frame, Link will fall.

It's during the first A press that Link moves. Done repeatedly, you can cross any gap where there's a floor to walk onto on both sides.

Buffered Method
One technique you can use to achieve this, is to use select to buffer each release/press of the A button. More or less no one does it like this anymore, as the unbuffered method is a lot faster, and not much harder, if at all.

To do this, you must have good timing of canceling the select menu, pressing A, then reopening the select menu.

The exact timing is:
# Press select
# Press a button to cancel the select menu
# Wait exactly two frames
# Press A
# Press select again. If you press it too fast, you will be fine to keep going, you will just not advance across the gap.

Unbuffered Method
To do this unbuffered, there's several different techniques. Probably every runner who does unbuffered hovers will do it slightly differently.

Most players hold the controller sideways, with the face buttons facing either downward or upward, and quickly slide their index and middle fingers back and forth over the A button. Some use their nails, others the palm side.
To avoid getting hit by the guards in this screen, hold <^ when entering the screen, and start dashing as soon as possible. Remember to stop holding ^ before the dash starts. You will know you have it right if you don't clink on the green guard.

If you do clink on the green guard, let your dash take you just past the edge of the far pillar on the bridge, and nudge the bridge on your dash down. You should still clear all the guards.
Big Key cannon hallway
The timing with which the wall-cannons in this room shoot is determined by a frame rule (Details). That means it is entirely random and you have to react to what you get. When you enter the room (and have stereo sound available) you can listen to the cannon shots to sometimes get a clue for which pattern to expect. The rare 1-2-1 pattern is especially easy to identify, since you will hear the first shot only on the left channel. Here are three examples of how to deal with different patterns with the help of a pause buffer.

{{VideoBox

Swim without having the flippers.

It can be combined with Walk on Water.

Fake Flippers
Exclusive to version JP 1.0 only. That allows Link to swim without Flippers. Moving onto land will cause Link to jump out of the water and end Fake Flippers.

While performing this glitch, getting hit triggers the game to check if you have flippers, and try to place you out of the water where you last jumped in. If you entered from a different screen, this will cause an infinite scroll soft-lock. This has been changed in ALttPR and causes instant death.

There are three main categories on performing Fake Flippers.

Screen Transition
Align yourself to the edge of a screen transition then jump into water while holding the direction into the transition. This will scroll the screen before Link can be booted out of the water giving him a swimming state.

Lake Lylia !! Qirn Jump !! Hobo !! Swamp
|| || ||

Technical explanation
The game allows Link to move for 8 frames in the water before it sends him out for not having flippers. In later versions of the game, the flippers are checked for every frame, and without them, Link cannot move. Since this code is not present in JP1.0, Link can move. It also just so happens that 8 frames is exactly how long you need to build up enough speed to start moving right. This means that despite the glitch technically having a larger window, the actual abuse of it is frame perfect. When moving west, the faster speed gain in this direction gives 1 more frame of leniency.

Fairy Revival
With a fairy in a bottle, jump into deep water and take a death (typically using a held bomb). The fairy will revive Link and put him into a swimming state.

Fairy Revival

Splashless
This method prevents the splash effect from occurring when Link jumps into water by filling up all available ancilla slots. The splash effect starts the game's routine to boot Link out of the water, so if the splash never spawns the game will never try to kick Link out giving a fake flipper state.

The following table is a list of common setups to delete the splash ancilla to activate fake flippers.

Applications
The best use for this is to get to the whirlpools that can be used to quickly warp to a different location on the map.

Desert Palace to Death Mountain
The most common application to use fake flippers is in the Any% (NMG, No S+Q) category when traveling from Desert Palace to Death Mountain.

Here is a picture demonstrating how to easily line up the glitch.

Use the wall (green line) to line up Link perfectly with the bush, then once touching the bush, slash against it and hold B to hold your sword out. Use the sword slash to buffer a direction change to ^> (blue line). This will line Link up perfectly (one pixel) from the edge of the screen. Quick Hop into the water (orange line) and hold right while in the air to transition the screen.

Spooky action
When you flute from outside of Skull Woods to Link's House, the duck exiting the screen sets an ancilla value that will mess with the Fire Rod shot in the first room of Ice Palace. In order to fix this variable, you should activate the flute and then transition the screen prior to the duck appearing on screen. This is most commonly done on the Link's House overworld screen, where you would activate the flute just prior to transitioning the screen north to the castle gate.

Castle Gate
It is possible to dash directly into the quick warp inside the castle gate (Link needs to be 1 or 2 pixels away from the right wall) by lining up with the signpost when you enter the screen, but it is a bad idea for two reasons:
# If you dash from that position, both the red and blue soldier can randomly hit you out of your dash. Damage will be taken, lag and chaos will ensue, seconds will be lost.
# Dashing into this warp causes around 20 extra frames of lag during the transition. Always cancel your dash before entering the warp.

A safe way to get across the bridge is to just dash a little further to the right, cancel your dash in front of the wall and then walk into the quick warp.
After the transition hold down when you start your dash, otherwise you will dash at an awkward height where your sword does not cut the grass in front of you and you'll run at reduced speed. You can be fancy and block a spear that might be coming your way while you charge the last dash or just dash a few pixels lower. After you get to the next screen turn Link up before starting the next dash or you'll pick up the signpost in your way.

Ropa Lottery
If Link is at least 2 pixels away from the wall when entering the screen, you can just walk past the first Ropa and never get hit. Alternatively you can dash through and kill it.

The second Ropa is a total crapshoot. Walk diagonally when you pass Ropa #1 and don't nudge against the tree when you start the dash. Get hit roughly 10-20% of the time. Consider grabbing some of the upcoming backup-hearts.

Quake
There is a very simple setup for the quick warp on this screen. Bonk into the right wall immediately after you throw something into the water and the camera will be in the correct position. Just don't touch left or right on the D-pad until after the mirror warp.

Minimize the time Link spends walking in the water and carrying objects. After mirroring cancel the east dash with up once you hit the mini-slope, then start the next dash with up-right against the wall. Cancel this last dash before you hit the transition to Zora's Domain to mitigate a significant amount of lag.

If you use the bush from up on the hill, you get a 50% chance of a heart drop and barely waste any time. The stone next to Link after you use the mirror has the same 50% chance for a heart. On top of that the crabs' drops are almost always hearts, but hunting them down can be dangerous as well. You can get some relatively quick health refills on this screen, but none of them are guaranteed drops and you have to be careful to not get hit again in the process.

"Quickfish"

There is a 5x9 pixel window from which you can throw an object where it will land outside the circle of rocks, but still spawn the Catfish. The range of coordinates are shown below.

First Room
The Freezor wakes up once you move half a tile to the left - only your horizontal position matters. If you clearly hit him with the Fire Rod and he still didn't take damage, you shot too early. Sometimes you can hit him very early, but it's pure luck. To be safe walk at least as far into the room as shown in the picture before you shoot the rod.

If you performed the ancilla correction mentioned earlier in the article, then this Fire Rod shot is much easier. Simply shoot the Fire Rod into the wall as the Freezor is waking up, and the splash damage will damage him.

Ice 02
In this room we want to avoid killing all the enemies to prevent the door from re-opening (which pauses the game for a moment). It's possible to abuse the long death animation, that happens when you kill something with the Fire Rod to get a jelly out of your way and still make it out of the room before the door opens. Watch your magic meter! Optimally you don't want to use the Fire Rod more than twice throughout the whole dungeon, because that way there is just enough magic refills in the pots before Kholdstare. You also want to avoid leaving the room on the same frame that the last enemy dies. Doing this can cause the sprites in the remainder of the dungeon to spawn incorrectly or not at all, preventing you from progressing.

There is plenty of RNG at work in this room and no single strat will work every time. Time to improvise again.

Walkthrough for the beam-strat:
# Hold < for a little bit when you step onto the ice.
# Change to <v to get some vertical momentum.
# Hold < again during the slashes. Space them out enough to fire two beams.
# Start holding <^ before collecting the key. Hold only diagonals from here.
# Press A to lock Link in place on top of the key while it's spawning.
# While holding A, change to ^> and hold it until you're off the ice.
# Fire Rod the last jelly if it's in the way.
}}

Bombable Floor
How early you can drop the second bomb entirely depends on the random movement of the jellies in the upper half of the room. Keep an eye on them and try to find the earliest safe opportunity to place the bomb. To be as safe as possible, you can take your time and slash the jellies out of the way first. In the end the most important thing is to not waste bombs or take damage.
}}

* You can hold right coming out of this door.
* The timing of the first bomb determines when the orange pegs rise from the floor. If that switch activation causes you trouble when you try to throw the bomb, try dropping the first bomb earlier or later.
* Slash at the first switch from far enough right to avoid the jelly next to it.
* Link can get stuck in the tight corner when you walk diagonally for some reason. Hold up until you made it past the wall to avoid that.
* If you get hit by the explosion of the second bomb, it will push you off the orange pegs and force you to hit the switch again. To be completely safe you can start pushing down during the pause that happens when the pegs switch.

Stalfos Knights
If you enter the room with only one bomb, you need to delay dropping the bomb until you collected the new one from under the pot or the game will auto-switch you to the next item and you have to menu again.

VideoBox

Moving Floor
When you enter this room your eyes need to be set on the two jellies and the direction the floor is moving in. With sword beams you can kill the key-jelly early and take intentional damage from the spikes to set up a dash through the entire room. The jellies' movement is random and aiming beams to hit the correct jelly can be tricky on the moving floor. Depending on the direction the floor is moving in and the positioning of the jellies, you'll have to decide on the fly if you want to take damage or try maneuvering through the room manually. Improvise!
}}

* Even without beams it can still be a good idea to walk into the spike and dash when the floor is moving right, because walking against the conveyor is just so slow.
* The black Babusu enemies deal two hearts of damage, so sometimes it might be a better idea to walk into a spike or jelly to take less damage and avoid getting hit by them.
* The exit door and moving floor don't work too well together. Prepare to get stuck and wiggle your way outta there.
* If you messed up the jelly room earlier, remember that the crystal switch needs to be set to blue.
* The floor starts moving when you enter the previous room, so if you savestate in front of the door you will always get the same initial floor movement. Practice both rooms together for best results.
Pengator Spin Room
It's useful to get in the habit of slashing down when you enter the room (just press B without any D-pad input), because sometimes you will have beams and you don't want to accidentally hit a Pengator and mess up the line. Missing one guy can quickly cost something like three seconds.

Block Switch
There are two ways to catastrophically mess this room up, resulting in a locked door in front of you. The only way to open it then is to go back upstairs and return to reset the room completely.
; Pushing the block in the wrong direction and putting it out of range of the switch.
: You can only push the block once. Trying to never press left on the D-pad in this room can be a good idea. Only tap up, then push down until the block moves, then right immediately and start a dash down.
; Toggling the switch twice with the block in position on the switch.
: There are three ways to toggle this switch: 1. Link steps onto it 2. Link steps off it 3. The block is moved onto it. On top of that the switch is no longer toggleable once the block is on it.
: Since you land on top of the block you can sometimes accidentally step onto the switch with Link while you are pushing the block down, resulting in an extra toggle (Link hits switch: door opens -> block hits switch: door closes -> switch blocked). To avoid this, make sure to push the block for as short as possible and walk right immediately when it starts moving. You can also walk up far enough that Link is not standing on top of the block any more before you start to push, if you want to be extra safe.
If you already walked onto the switch, there is still enough time to get off it (which toggles it a third time and opens the door back up) before the block arrives in position - if you react fast enough.
If you want to be optimal, tap up-right instead of up before pushing. You can also have Link face down in the previous room before falling into the hole to mitigate human error and maybe save some frames.

Magic Refill
Make extra sure not to touch the statue when you walk past it, because it will slow Link down immensely.

Death Mountain Ascent (commonly shortened to DMA) is a way to enter Death Mountain using Out of Bounds. This allows you to skip the Power Gloves, which you'd ordinarily need to access the cave to take you up Death Mountain.

New DMA Method
Found by Yuzuhara, this version utilizes a spindash, making it JP 1.0 exclusive, but is faster and safer from boulders/deadrocks while ascending. Tutorial by JoshRTA: https://youtu.be/Jk76IoS6qfY

Wall Clipping with Boots
It's possible to enter Death Mountain by using the boots to clip into a diagonal wall on the overworld and then activating an upwards teleport to place Link on a different screen. From here you can transition right to Death Mountain.

Clipping through Slope
There are multiple ways to clip through diagonal edge, the easiest way is to press < or > and press A at the same time while holding the sword up.

Starting point and teleport
There are multiple starting points in each edge that will work.

Here are two starting point that work.

You can see a "hole" in the grass under Link's shadow for the first one.

Then you must do 8 > input, you can count or just use visual cue for stopping that

Here you can see for example only 1 pixel of link's feet shadow that go out.

When you reach that, release B then hold >v.

Entering the cave
Move up and right a bit, then enter the right screen.

You are at the bottom on death mountain, but you will not see the map properly

Don't try to enter the cave immediately, the game will have trouble making the black hole closing transition, at best it will take forever, or just crash.

You need to make the camera scroll up (move up and down), you will start seeing the squirrel and boulders but not the entrance. You can try to enter the cave now, It should be fine.
Key Pokey 1
To kill a Pokey in one spin you have to let it jump into your spin attack. Position yourself in the Pokey's path in front of it and make sure not to poke it with your sword. In this room it is a good idea to slash either left or right (whichever is the opposite of the direction the Pokey is going in) to avoid hitting any of the enemies with sword beams, in case you have them. Remember that sometimes Pokey-body parts will fly around the room and you basically aim their trajectory when you kill the poor thing, so try to consider it when picking a position.

Look at the Pokey while you enter the room: If it's going up, you can walk a few steps into the room before you charge your sword. If it's going down, you need to slash immediately.

Anticipate where possible items will drop (key/fairy!) and get used to the time it takes Link to actually pick them up. If you time it really well, you can sometimes even save some frames by charging a dash while waiting, but picking up the fairy is probably more important.

}}

Chomps
There are many strats for this room, that all have their uses depending on RNG/resources. When you enter the room, walk straight forward for a few steps and take that time to look at the chomps' movement, gauge which way will least likely be blocked and pick a direction to go in: left, right or center. Success is never guaranteed - these guys can and will block your shots at the last possible moment or hit you in some undodgable fashion, if they want to. The most important thing on this screen is probably to know how to react when things go wrong!

The longer you spend in this room, the more chances you give the chomps to get in your way. Going as fast as possible is the best safety! Some things to be aware of when trying to optimize this strat:
*Place the first cane block as early as possible
*Don't push the cane block
*Detonate the second cane block as soon as possible AFTER the pegs switch
*Keep moving while the cane projectiles are traveling towards the switch
*Push the upper half of the switch block
*Hold diagonal towards the chest as soon as the switch block starts moving

The first lunge attack can happen anywhere between 3-4 seconds after entering the room and the delay between the two chomps' attacks can be anywhere between 0-64 frames. Anything after the first attack is hard to test, because the randomness spirals out of control the longer you spend in the room.

Key Pokey 2
When you're approaching this room, think about whether you need to hit the switch and whether you need/want to pick up the (other) drops from the Pokey.

The easy way to do this room is to pull out the Fire Rod and blast the Pokey (caution: flying body parts may still appear), then take the hit from the Rabbit Beam intentionally. This also allows you to use fire in the upcoming double Pokey room. Costs about 4-5 seconds in total, since you use some extra menus and need more magic.

The laser eye only starts shooting when Link faces it. If you're approaching the door from below, walk all the way to the wall before you move up in front of the eye. For some reason it is much more lenient when approaching from above.

Close to optimal strats for all four patterns, hitting the switch:
Arrows

Five relatively quick to get arrows under this pot. While you're in the pipe approaching is a good time to think about whether you need these to get the required 18 at Ice Armos.

Magic

With standard strats you have just enough magic for the entire dungeon. Sword-beam strats at Chomps or the Crystalroller key chest can even give some leeway. The full magic refills right at the beginning and end are the only ones necessary to pick up. If one of the Pokeys drops a refill right in your path you can save frames by getting that one instead of the last pot, but you'll have two less rod shots for the Trinexx fight.

If you use the Fire Rod against Pokeys (or wasted some magic), you'll have to pick up one more refill.

In case of emergency:

Bombs

You'll need one bomb in Ganon's Tower, so grab the quick one next to the full magic refill in the Turtle Rock entrance room if you're empty. If you do the safe strategy for Big Switch Room, the pot the you toss at the switch also contains a bomb that you will likely collect naturally.

Hello! Let me start with: THIS IS NOT A DECISION. THIS IS NOT FINAL. THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS TO TRY TO CLARIFY THE RULES. We have spent so long trying to shoehorn glitches into categories, and we believe we have, in the long run, not been successful doing so cleanly. This has been demonstrated recently by railclipping, and the struggle to categorize it as "major" or "minor" or in-between. So we want to approach the problem a different way. We wanted to instead look at what we've called "NMG", identify what we believe the run should look like, and instead list clear rules for the category beyond "No Major Glitches." As such, we've come up with a list of proposed rules. In the future, any new glitch would be 'tested' against these rules to decide if it is allowed in the categories that utilize the "NMG" Ruleset. What we would like is for folks to look at these rules, and test them for sanity. Do they keep the run in the spirit of NMG today? Does it allow anything we haven't thought of? Please review these and share your thoughts. The eventual goal is to present a solid ruleset to the community for "NMG", "NoEG/DG/WW", and "NoEG" to the community for discussion and voting, but we're starting with NMG as a base. The 5 rules are:

# The player is to remain inbounds at all time, not using any glitches or techniques to pass through (either partially or totally) dungeon or overworld walls/cliffs in an unintended manner. Passing through interior features such as rails, spikes, and blocks is acceptable.
# Any screen transition must be natural (that is, without the use of a bottle, mirror, or somaria block, etc used DURING the transition to modify, bypass, or interrupt its outcome) and possible without the use of glitches or a misaligned camera.
# You may not utilize any means to place yourself on an unintended layer or improperly transition between valid layers ("Exploration Glitch.")
# All dungeons must be entered through their natural intended entrance.
# Misslotting and RAM preparation is banned.

NOTE: Ancilla misslotting means using/abusing ancilla objects to manipulate objects to go into an INVALID ancilla slot, allowing for outcomes such as the hookshot passing through solid objects, or other outcomes like hookpushing.
Greenhamhttp://alttp-wiki.net/index.php?title=Tutorials_and_other_external_resources&diff=2622Tutorials and other external resources2019-04-03T15:39:05Z
Greenham: /* Tutorials */

Every enemy sprite is part of a group. Each group have their own "prize pack", meaning an ordered list of what they will drop when you kill them. The first time an enemy in a specific group drops an item, you will always get the first item in that pack. And next time the second etc. Each group has its own "counter", so advancing one prize pack does not affect the others. Any enemy that is designated to drop a key will never drop an item from its prize pack, even if the key is obtained. Enemies will always drop a green rupee if killed while stunned or killed with anything but the hammer while frozen. Killing an enemy with a dash will force the drop rate to 0%.

<!---
To determine if an enemy will drop an item when killed, the following operations are performed in order (Bank 06 ~line 6591)

# If the enemy was a pikit holding an item, drop the stolen item and exit routine
# If the enemy drops a specific item (keys), drop the key and exit routine (effectively)
# Check what prize pack the enemy drops
## If the enemy has no prize pack then skip to step #, otherwise check Link's luck:
##* If Link has no luck from the pond of happiness, continue to next step
##* If Link has bad luck, skip to step #
##* If Link has good luck, skip to step #
# Get a random number to determine if the enemy will drop an item
# Determine the next prize to be dropped and load it into a register

You can save time by catching pendants and crystals in specific positions. For crystals, the way the screen is scrolled when grabbing the Heart Container matters too.

Pendants
Simply grab it while Link's head is below the shadow of the pendant. This grabs the pendant faster for unknown reasons.

There's nothing more to grabbing pendants (releasing spin does not save lag frames as some might claim)

Crystals
When you grab the Heart Container in a Dark World dungeon, the crystal's position is set to the center of the screen (not necessarily center of the room). This means that if the room is scrolled upwards as you grab the Heart Container, the crystal will land on a higher position in the room than if it's scrolled downwards.

It is better to grab the Heart Container with the screen scrolled upwards if you can. For Trinexx you have the ability to choose how you want to grab it since it always drops in the middle of the room. Optimally you'd also kill Arrghus at the top of the screen, but most people are more comfortable killing him against the south wall. The difference between a high and a low Heart Container grab seems to be 5 frames overall.

Then we have two conflicting ideas:
# The lower Link is when catching the crystal, the faster it will be caught. Same as for pendants.
# The higher Link is relative to top of the screen (not necessarily top of the room - depends on how the screen is scrolled), the crystal's animation will travel a shorter distance after catching it (before the screen goes black).

As it turns out, it's better to optimize for 2. So what you want to do, in order of priority:
* You want the screen to be scrolled as low as possible when catching a crystal. So walk downwards until the screen stops scrolling. This is the number one priority always.
* After you have reached the lowest scrolling position, the next priority is to put Link as high as possible without scrolling upwards.

There seems to be multiple coordinates that will give you the same fastest time, so you don't have to be perfectly precise to not lose frames. Most people use the crystal's shadow and Link's sprite (his face/hat) for cues that accomplishes this, as can be seen in the link below.

See Michael's science on this, including images that demonstrates good visual cues for catching the crystal. Note that these examples assumes you grabbed the Heart Container while the screen was scrolled up. If it was grabbed at the bottom, you want Link's feet to be above the shadow of the crystal.
Greenhamhttp://alttp-wiki.net/index.php?title=Lanmolas&diff=2044Lanmolas2018-07-06T17:42:18Z
Greenham: link to blunt's tips

First Cycle

During the first cycle, the lanmolas spawn points within the room are fixed. Even though their behavior after surfacing is random, the consistent spawns allows you for a consistent setup and approach to open up the fight

All Subsequent Cycles

In every cycle after the first, the lanmolas spawns become random.

Strategy
NMG First Fight

* Practice this a lot. It's the only way to develop necessary spatial awareness, pattern recognition, and reactions.
* For the first cycle, bonk the top wall and move up 1-2 pixels (good idea to use Sword Buffer) for this. This puts you in a good position that allows you to shoot at the left and right lanmolas safely.
* Strongly favor the bow in this fight over the sword. The bow does twice as much damage. Only use the sword if you know you'll be unable to position yourself for additional arrow hits.
* Missing arrow shots can be significant. The game only lets one arrow in the air at a time, so if you miss, you'll have to wait for the arrow to hit a wall before you can continue shooting.
* Keep track of how much damage you've done to each worm. You don't want to waste time or arrows shooting at a worm that's already dead.
* How the lanmolas move in the room should influence your approach. If a lanmola spawns and moves downwards, it's vertical position on screen will actually remain very stable for a short time before it takes its dive. This allows you to easily stand next to it and get two or more arrow hits in. For upwards moving patterns, you'll have to learn how to follow the lanmola along its path.
* Usually you'll want to prioritize the 3rd worm more than the others. It tends to be more difficult to damage it during the 1st round, and there can be a few second difference between getting an early cycle kill (with the 1st worm as your last kill) and getting a late cycle (3rd worm as your last kill).

NMG Ganon Tower Refight

* You can save a rod shot by starting the fight with a spin.
* Make sure you're boosted upwards, perhaps slightly towards the right.
* Try to spin as early as possible - the later in the spin animation you hit the first Lanmola, the faster you can start moving for the second shot.
* If the first lanmola goes leftwards, you should just ignore it, unless you're very good at the fight. It's usually very hard to get a 1 cycle when this happens, so it's better to try to guarantee the 2 cycle by going to the 2nd Lanmola early.
* A good cue for the dash into the next screen is to start your dash on the 8th (and last) explosion of the last Lanmola you kill.

Birddashing
How to dash into your bird without missing him.

In Theory
Birddashing works in a similar way as a Keydash works. If you're not lined up correctly, you'll miss the trigger. To line up you need to manipulate the distance between the left edge of the screen and Link's sprite.

One example of a 100% successful Birddash would be to dash left on a scrollable screen before the actual bird-dash. Dashing left on a scrollable screen will scroll the screen by 4 pixels relative to Link's position. Linkss sprite is now 4 pixels further away from the left edge of the screen, meaning that if you now dash at the bird you need to travel 1 frame longer to hit the bird, which lines you up perfectly.

This only works if you start running before the bird appeared on screen.

Start dashing a maximum of 88 frames after calling the bird. Use the fifth note of the ocarina melody as an audio cue to start dashing.

In some areas the screen is already aligned the right way, but dashing to the right or fumbling around with the screenscrolling will break it.

Sometimes a dash to the right will also do the trick, but most of the time not. Left always seem to work.

Another way to line up without aligning the screen is to dash at the bird and rub against an object to manipulate Link's x-speed. If you're aware of the current screen alignment and Link's y-axis this will also achieve a successful birddash. (e.g. outside of ice palace)

Birddashing is 10 frames faster than walking towards the bird.
Dashing and stopping in front of the bird saves up to 9 frames over walking.
Walking is 13frames faster than standing.
This is only true if the screen scrolls while dashing/walking.
It doesn't save any frames if the screen isn't scrolling.

2 Practical Examples
After Ice Palace
mirror without moving - call bird - move right until you stop at the edge - dash left - you’ll rub against the stone and hit the bird.
(use the audio cue described above. if you dash to early or late you’ll miss, but the window is big.)
alternatively you can dash a tiny bit to the left after calling the bird to scroll the screen 4pixels
and then do the actual bird-dash without rubbing against anything. this saves even 1frame more.

After Ether
(last dash was obviously to the left.)
call bird - move down/right until you’re more or less at the bottom right corner of the right rock - dash left into the bird.
(again: use the audio cue!)
NOTE: the green thing you get Ether from can screw up the setup if you walk against it from below and press left or right at the same time. this will scroll the screen to the left/right. to get it good again, scroll it to the very left or right.
anything in-between won’t work. a short dash to the left or right will do the same.

Bonus Fact
After Mire
Obviously no birddash here. You can however walk down the stairs and dash into the right wall.
If the bird catches you while the screen is shaking you have a 50/50 chance of saving 1 frame.
Doesn't work while on stairs. Doesn't work with the left wall.
Greenhamhttp://alttp-wiki.net/index.php?title=Tech&diff=1750Tech2018-03-02T17:03:48Z
Greenham: /* Other Tech */

The purpose of early tempered is to get the tempered sword without having to get the titan's mitt first. The purpose of the trick is to reach the smith that you must bring back to his brother to get your sword tempered.

The "easy" method (5 mirrors)
Example VOD doing all the steps: https://www.twitch.tv/poor_little_pinkus/v/82080377?t=14m04s

Position 1
Align with skulls, and hold down untill you hit the ledge. Mirror.

Position 2
Walk left, out of the warp, and nudge right, untill you are on the left side of this warp. There's a huge number of pixels that works for this one, so no need to be very exact. I do dash buffers while holding the sword out to nudge Link controllably. A dash buffer is just pressing a dpad direction and dash on the same frame. It makes it much easier to move one pixel at a time.

The reason you walk out of the warp, then into it, is because it saves 2 seconds for whatever reason. When Link is just standing inside the warp, it takes ~12.5 seconds to warp, whereas if you move out of it, then into it again, it takes only ~10.5 seconds. But there's no shame in taking the two second hit for consistency, and ignore all that.

In Dark World, you just mirror back ASAP (spam that Y button).

Position 3
Again, walk out of the warp, and nudge back into it. My cue here is Link's hat, making some kind of bubbly figure out of the right side of the stairs.. That's a weird cue I just realized, but it works. Could try using sword or shield as cue too. There's a bunch of pixels that works for this one as well.

In Dark World, just mirror back.

Position 4
Go up the stairs, nudge down. You want to be on one of the two topmost warp pixels for this one. You can put Link on a correct pixel before the warp invulnerability period is over (Link still blinking), by using the sword as cue (if it covers the black shadow there, you're at the topmost position that will work).

Another way to do this one is to go above the warp, wait until Link stops blinking, and then walk down into the warp.

In Dark World, hold ^ until you hit the skulls, and mirror back.

Position 5
You can use the same sword cue for this one, if you want to go right to the topmost pixel. But on this one, only the topmost pixel will work.

So if you decide to wait until Link stops blinking to nudge down, it's important not to accidentally go 2 frames downwards, because that might put you 1 pixel too far south, which won't work. But it's pretty safe if you use dash buffers.

The mirror jump
See Mirror Jumps for more information

The hard method is to do it completely bufferless (just hold left, wait 19 frames or so, and press Y). Jadin made that work, by using his controller to tap out a rhythm. He'd press left (holding), L, R and Y. But it's frame perfect and for now, only Jadin has been able to do it in runs.

Luckily, the frog is jumping up and down, and it's doing so in a consistent manner, so we can use its animation frames for cues.

# Start out holding left. This should be done while warping back to Dark World. You will keep holding left for all these steps.

# The frog will first jump up, then down, then up again. You want to use select buffers so that you stop him on this exact animation frame:

It's his second-topmost position, after he has jumped up and down once.

The kicker here, is that there's no way of actually knowing exactly which animation frame you are on since he will have this height for *two* frames. So you don't know if you stopped it at the first or the second frame. You want to stop it on the first frame. Make sure you're consistent at select buffering one frame to remedy this.

# From here, you want to cancel the menu, wait one frame, then press Y. So there's a slight space between the cancel menu input and the mirror input.

The only good way of learning this is to practice. It's just a rhythm/technique. My personal technique is similar to what you'd do if you wanted to type out "iu" fast on a keyboard. I also rotate my controller slightly, so the Y and B buttons are easier to hit this way. Then I type out the word "iu" (pressing B then Y) with my long and index fingers. I have not found a way to do this consistently; sometimes you'll get it in all your runs, other days none.

A much unsafer method is to try to select buffer it one more frame. That could make it slightly easier to cancel the menu into mirror next frame, skipping the one frame of spacing between the inputs. But the problem with doing that is that the frog won't move at all, and so there's no good way to tell if you did it correctly or not. Link's animation MIGHT move, making it obvious that you advanced a frame, but I think that's based on frame rules or something, because that definitely doesn't always happen. So you risk frame advancing without realizing it if you do it this way.

The HARD method (4 mirrors)
If you're good enough at the game to need this time save (about 14-16s), you're probably good enough that you know about it already anyways.

For the curious, it consists of doing 4 unbuffered mirror jumps in a row. (You can do it buffered too, but that's not faster than the method above, which only has one mirror jump and is thus a lot easier.)

Alternate methods without mirror jump
There are 2 other ways (and probably other) to do early tempered without doing mirror jumps.

Here is the Malibukenn method with one mirror warp (using mirror + entering a transition at the same time)

These are ordered from most severe to least severe.

Exploration Glitch (EG)
Placing the player sprite on the incorrect layer of the game which results in the ability to bypass obstacles through layer manipulation. There are many ways to activate EG, including normal OOB glitches, underworld YBAs, performing a midair s+q, offsetting the camera (for example with bumpers in Skull Woods) and abusing Tower of Hera's poor dungeon design. EG is only possible in the underworld.

Door Glitches (DG)
Three subsets of glitches which are accomplished by bypassing or corrupting a door transition on the underworld. This can be accomplished with a YBA or through use of the Cane of Somaria, bombs, pixelporting (in a TAS), and probably more ways.

Superskuj Door Juke (SDJ) AKA Data Swapping
A glitch which swaps data between two rooms, or overwrites completion flags in a room. This can: cause chest contents to change, refill chests, regenerate keys, and toggle the "holes hurt players" flag which allows some Wrong Warps.

Door Warp
A glitch which corrupts a door transition, causing it to transport the player multiple rooms instead of just one, or to transport the player in the wrong direction.

Underworld Fake Flute
See: 6. Fake Flute

Wrong Warp (WW)
Using a hole in a room to transfer the player to a room which is not intended to be accessed from the former. Some holes can accomplish this by default, such as Ganonpot or the Turtle Rock lava dive, others require an SDJ to change the behavior of the hole. As of now Door Glitches are required to perform any Wrong Warps, but they aren't considered a subset of Door Glitches, instead they have their own classification.

Out of Bounds (OOB)
Specific manipulation of the game engine's collision detection to bypass a boundary. On the underworld OOB results in Link being outside a room's walls, but without freedom of movement across the underworld map (that is EG). On the overworld OOB results in bypassing an obstacle, such as a wall or cliff. Methods to achieve OOB include clipping, teleports and mirror jumps. Some applications of OOB can automatically lead to EG.

Screen Transition Gitches (Overworld)
Two subsets of glitches which corrupt the function of a seen transition on the overworld.

Mirror Warping
Activating the mirror on the same frame as a screen transition to warp across a screen.

YBA
A blue potion YBA activates a fake flute (see: Fake Flute). Using a green or red potion to activate a YBA on the overworld corrupts the screen's data, allowing the player to bypass dome obstacles.

Fake Flute
The flute menu can be accessed with a YBA on the overworld or underworld, and are classified separately:

Overworld Fake Flute
Achieved by performing a blue potion YBA on the overworld. Calls a functioning flute menu, with the exception that transportation from the Dark World will result in the player landing in the Fake Light World.

Underworld Fake Flute
Achieved with a green YBA in an inter-tile door or a blue YBA in an intra-tile door. This calls a flute menu which does not function properly. This is not considered EG unless the player moves far enough from the landing zone to reload underworld tiles.
Greenham
