Dinosaur Jump is a Bomb Jump in Palace of Darkness that crosses a gap on the left side of the Bumper Beetle Room. If the player is coming from the entrance, this jump is the fastest way to get to Hammerbridge Room. Other considerations may be relevant though (heart management, small key route, etc.)

History & Info

This trick was optimal in the Any% NMG route for a time, but with the introduction of Hammerjump and acmlm's key route in 2012, it was deemed no longer useful.

In other runs though, principally RMG Speedruns, it can still save the player 1.5 seconds (not factoring in the time it takes to collect an extra bomb) over the standard route for getting to Hammerbridge.

Technique

  • In order to save time with this at all, the trick must be done "early" -- that is the player needs to pull the bomb and walk with it prior to reaching the position to jump from.
  • Pull the bomb after turning upwards and passing the corner. It is essential that you stay close to the edge so that Link has full walk speed while he's carrying the bomb.
  • You'll also want to cut the top corner diagonally to save a bit of time. Optimizing your walk is important here to give any bit of extra time to position Link and throw the bomb.
  • The window for where to stand is large for a bomb jump. For your x-coordinate position, you can be anywhere from 461-467, a 7 pixel window. For your y-coordinate position, you can be anywhere from 4B0-4B9, a 10 pixel window. However, since you have to turn down and throw the bomb, you'll want to avoid positioning Link low in that y-coordinate window, as it can be easy to accidentally walk out of it when you go to throw the bomb.
  • Throw the bomb down while standing on a good position and you'll get boosted across. It is important that your setup gives the bomb a bit of fuse-time while it's in the air. If you push it too hard, you risk an altitude FF explosion, which will not damage you.
  • Hold > in the air during Link's knockback animation to reach land safely.
