okay so
each lanmola has 16 HP
my advice here is to deal damage to them (4 HP damage per arrow) until their HP reaches 0

Phases

First Cycle

During the first cycle, the lanmolas spawn points within the room are fixed. Even though their behavior after surfacing is random, the consistent spawns allows you for a consistent setup and approach to open up the fight

All Subsequent Cycles

In every cycle after the first, the lanmolas spawns become random.

They each have 64 different positions to start from, and from each of those positions, there's 64 places they can land.

Strategy

NMG First Fight

Some Basics

  • Practice this a lot. It's the only way to develop necessary spatial awareness, pattern recognition, and reactions.
  • For the first cycle, bonk the top wall and move up 2-4 pixels (good idea to use Sword Buffer) for this. This puts you in a good position that allows you to shoot at the left and right lanmolas safely.
  • In the first round, you want to fire two arrows left at the 1st worm, two arrows right at the 2nd worm, and as much as you can on the 3rd worm. Sometimes you can even kill the 3rd worm in the first cycle! This is huge because it will make your fights faster, since the 3rd worm is the last to spawn in, and it makes it much easier to finish with a 2 or 3 cycle having one worm already down. See the section below for examples of this.
  • In the first round, there's a strong visual cue for when to shoot your first arrow to the left: it's when the 2nd worm's dirt pile reaches its 2nd size.
  • Strongly favor the bow in this fight over the sword. The bow does twice as much damage. Only use the sword if you know you'll be unable to position yourself for additional arrow hits.
  • Missing arrow shots can be significant. The game only lets one arrow in the air at a time, so if you miss, you'll have to wait for the arrow to hit a wall before you can continue shooting.
  • Keep track of how much damage you've done to each worm. You don't want to waste time or arrows shooting at a worm that's already dead.
  • How the lanmolas move in the room should influence your approach. If a lanmola spawns and moves downwards, it's vertical position on screen will actually remain very stable for a short time before it takes its dive. This allows you to easily stand next to it and get two or more arrow hits in. For upwards moving patterns, you'll have to learn how to follow the lanmola along its path.
  • Usually you'll want to prioritize the 3rd worm more than the others. It tends to be more difficult to damage it during the 1st round, and there can be a few second difference between getting an early cycle kill (with the 1st worm as your last kill) and getting a late cycle (3rd worm as your last kill).

First Round 3rd Worm Kills

Straight ^ Pattern

For Straight ^ Patterns, fire two arrows south and then use the worm's i-frames to move through it before turning and finishing it off with 2 shots upwards. This is the easiest pattern to kill in 1 round. In the latest prachack, this pattern corresponds to values 0.3, 1.3, and 2.3 in the Lanomla Exit RNG Control. File

High Angle ^> Pattern

For High Angle ^> Patterns, you want to do a similar thing to Straight ^, except you'll have to move diagonally some to follow the lanmola's trajectory. In the latest prachack, this pattern corresponds to values 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 2.4, and 2.5 in the Lanmola Exit RNG Control. File

Low Angle ^> Pattern

For Low Angle ^> Patterns, there are a few options you can choose between based on preference and the exact angle of the worm's trajectory. Because the angle has gotten lower, it is more difficult to get below the lanmola quickly enough for 2 upwards shots like we can with the Straight ^ and High Angle ^> Patterns. You can still try for it this way if you prefer though. In the latest prachack, this pattern corresponds to values 2.6, 2.7, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 7.5, 7.6, and 7.7 in the Lanmola Exit RNG Control. File

Low Angle ^> Pattern Alt Strat

A different approach for this kill. File

Low Angle ^> Pattern Alt Strat

A 2nd alternate approach to this kill File

Straight > Pattern

For Straight > Patterns, it is no longer feasible to get under the lanmola for 2x upshot kills. This is one of the harder patterns to execute consistently because the movement, reaction, position, and timing of shots are all important to get right. In the latest prachack, this pattern corresponds to values 4.5, 4.6, and 4.7 in the Lanmola Exit RNG Control. File

NMG Ganon Tower Refight

  • You can save a rod shot by starting the fight with a spin.
  • Make sure you're boosted upwards, perhaps slightly towards the right.
  • Try to spin as early as possible - the later in the spin animation you hit the first Lanmola, the faster you can start moving for the second shot.
  • If the first lanmola goes leftwards, you should just ignore it, unless you're very good at the fight. It's usually very hard to get a 1 cycle when this happens, so it's better to try to guarantee the 2 cycle by going to the 2nd Lanmola early.
  • A good cue for the dash into the next screen is to start your dash on the 8th (and last) explosion of the last Lanmola you kill.
