All of these methods are in theory consistent methods of misslotting to slot 9. Meaning we avoid the "chance" of sometimes getting slot 8 instead.
This is done by making sure you are ready to misslot right after slashing your sword. The method that people used initially, which was pop somaria + dash buffer, spent too much time between slashing your sword and misslotting, making a slot 8 more likely. These ones puts the misslot in the first 11 frames, or uses visual cues to ensure a good misslot.
All videos are marked with a difficulty (1-10) which is completely arbitrary and only a result from trying in emulator 10 times each. But they at least shows which ones are completely free. All of them can be made consistent with practice.

Arrows + Bombs
Difficulty: 7/10 File
- 3 Arrows in wall
- Put 1 bomb down
- Slash sword & Hold it
- Immediately put down last bomb
- "Immediately" put down a somaria block, boom etc. for misslotting to 9
Puts you at the very start of the 11 frame window in step 5.
Can't be done if you have beams.
This is not the easiest setup, due to having to put down the last bomb after slashing. It's easy to waste a few frames and making the window tight.
Arrows + Bomb + Boom
Difficulty: 2/10 File
Same as above, but step 4 is you throwing a boom instead.
The major difference here is that the boom will change the EG variable for you, so if you want it to be non-zero for hookpush EG, you are already 100% set up after the misslot, and can just hook to EG immediately.
It's very easy to be within the very first frames of the 11f window on this one. You can also use the boom as visual cue.
Arrows + Bomb + Fire rod
Difficulty: 2/10 File
Same as above, but step 4 is you shooting your fire rod instead.
The major difference here is that the fire rod will set up both hookpush distance and direction for you.
It's very easy to be within the very first frames of the 11f window on this one. You can also use the fire rod charge as visual cue.
Arrows + Beams
Difficulty: 5/10 File
- 3 Arrows in wall
- Face away from wall
- Slash sword & produce beams & hold sword down
- Do a dash buffer once the beam has travelled ~half the screen
- Put down somaria block, boom etc. for mosslotting to 9, about when the beam has travelled the full screen.
The beams will need to travel for ~1 screen, so this will not work in every room.
You will be at the start of your 11f window, but at the same time you need to dash buffer and misslot with a certain timing. I'm not completely sure why, but this seems to be the most important factor. Using beams for visual cues makes this much easier to get consistent.
Somaria + Arrow
Difficulty: 1/10 File
- Put down somaria
- Shoot arrow in wall
- Slash sword & Hold it
- Immediately pop somaria
- "Immediately" put down a somaria block, boom etc. for misslotting to 9.
Puts you at the very start of the 11 frame window in step 5. You might actually need to wait a few frames (3-4) before misslotting.
Beams are OK as long as you're facing a wall or something that makes the beam last for a very short time.
This is completely free. The only issue can be if you misslot too soon. You need to wait for sparks, but it's just a short amount of time, then you get the 11f window.
Somaria + Bomb
Difficulty: 1/10 File
Same as above, but step 2 is putting down a bomb instead.
Somaria + Boom
Difficulty: 3/10 File
Same as above, but step 2 is using a boom instead
There is no chance of misslotting 8 here, since by the time the boom gets back to Link you're still in the first 11f window generally. But the timing can be tighter than 11f since you need to misslot before the boom comes back.
Somaria + Beam
Difficulty: 4/10 File
- Put down somaria
- Slash sword & produce beams & hold sword down
- Immediately pop somaria
- "Immediately" put down a somaria block, boom etc. for misslotting to 9.
The beams will need to travel for ~1 screen, so this will not work in every room. But it's probably the fastest consistent method. You can watch the beams for visual cues on when to press Y.
Puts you at the very start of the 11 frame window in step 4. You might actually need to wait a few frames (3-4) before misslotting.
EG variable will be unchanged (somaria spark in slot 0)
This is similar to the Arrows + Beams, but easier since you don't have to dash buffer.
Silver Arrows + Somaria
Difficulty: 1/10 File
- Put down somaria
- Change to Silver Arrows
- Shoot Arrow and immediately menu back to Somaria
- Mash Y for the win
Obviously needs a little distance for the Silver Arrow to travel.
In the video example above, the window for the last Y was 14 frames.
