Spin dash is a weird glitch in the 1.0 Japanese version that has a couple of different effects. It's mainly use to get Superspeed, but it can also be used in some Out of Bounds tricks. Be careful because it disables your sword, but you can use that to see if you did the trick correctly.
Doing a spindash is quite simple: hold B to charge you sword, when the sword is charged release B, then press the A button the next frame.
That sounds hard because it's a frame perfect trick, but on a controller you can just slide your thumb from B to A quickly, and it should work.
If you see Link start dashing, you were too early on your press of A. If you spin but didn't get the proper glitched state, then you were too late on your press of A.
IMPORTANT : Don't face a wall or something, otherwise the A input will make Link try to grab that instead of dashing. That's why we face up or down on stairs while doing this trick.
