The value 7E044A,2 is set by certain supertiles.. it appears to have something to do with which layer is the "top" layer of a given room. Lots of rooms do not set these flags, but every room where the game designers expect that you could jump a ledge sets it. When you have EG stored (meaning 7E047A,2 is nonzero and a layer change is "queued" waiting for a jump to complete) this value effectively serves as an indication of stored EG strength. Supertiles marked "1" give you what can be considered a "stronger" EG, supertiles marked "2" give you what can be considered a "weaker" EG, and supertiles marked "X" leave the value alone. Simply entering these supertiles for an instant will update this value accordingly.
