Fanfare Skip

Fanfare Skip is a glitch that allows players to skip most of the cutscene that typically follows collection of a Pendant. Since it requires a misslotted Somaria block in order to perform, it is banned from runs that ban Misslotting (all NMG and RMG Speedruns).

Loose Explanation

First of all, when learning this trick it's super helpful if you go into the Practice Hack and turn on the Ancillae Super Watch (Menu > HUD Extras > Super Watch > Ancillae). This will draw the relevant values on your HUD.

Two main conditions need to be met in order for the fanfare to be skipped after collecting the pendant:

  • Slots 0-4 are all filled at the time the Pendant is grabbed.
  • A Somaria block is misslotted 8 slots higher than the pendant. Typically this means loading the pendant in slot 1 (it wants to spawn in slot 3 by default, so this requires some manipulations), and misslotting a Somaria block into slot 9, but a setup that uses slot 0 pendant and slot 8 somaria block would also work.

To execute this, we're gonna look at the left column of numbers in the Ancillae Super Watch:

  • We want the search index to be greater than 09 so that we can create a slot 9 Somaria Block. Usually this is set prior to the trick, possibly even several rooms/screens ahead of time.
  • We want the pendant (object 29) to be loaded in slot1. Normally when you grab the Heart Container, an Item Get ancilla (object 22) from the Heart Container is briefly loaded into slot 4 while the heart rises above Link's head and the pendant ancilla (object 29)is immediately loaded one slot below in slot 3. By having slots 3 and 4 occupied before touching the Heart Container, we can have the container and the pendant spawn in slots 2 and 1 respectively, which is what we want.
  • We want to create a somaria block (object 2C) in slot 9.
  • We want slots 0-4 filled. A common way to do this is just to pop a normal somaria block, which is convenient because we'll already have somaria equipped for creating a slot 9 block. With the pendant occupying slot 1, the beams from a somaria block will fill all the other front slots.

Applications

Armos Fanfare Skip

This fanfare skip is unique in that you can't preset your search index. This is because the arrow ancillae that stick in the Armos Knights will modify the search index. You'll also be lacking Boots here, which means Dash Dust ancilla is unusable.

Glan Method

Technique:

  • Immediately after firing the 18th arrow on Armos, menu to Cane of Somaria and place a block roughly in the center of the room. This isn't very precise at all, we just want to give the beams a bit of room to travel when we pop the block later. The object 2C should now be in slot 4.
  • Menu to Lamp and use the lamp just before grabbing the Heart Container. If you time it well, you can still collect the Heart Container asap, but if you wanted to be safe, you could stand to the side and wait for the Container to spawn in, and then lamp before walking into it. If you do this sequence correctly, a lamp flame ancilla (object 2F) will load into slot 3, the Heart Container ancilla (object 22) will load into slot 2, and the pendant ancilla (object 29) will spawn into slot 1.
  • After collecting the container, move towards the center of the room where the pendant will fall. Lamp twice while facing north to set the search index to 0D.
  • Press and hold B to hold a sword charge. Sparkle ancillae will appear in slots 7-9.
  • Pause and menu back to Somaria. It's way easier if you do this pause after you've started holding your sword.
  • Out of the menu, pop the initial somaria block you set and immediately place another one. The beams from the first block will occupy slots 0, 2, 3, and 4, and the 2nd block you place will be loaded into slot 9. If done correctly, you'll catch the pendant and skip the fanfare.

Moldorm Fanfare Skip

With this skip, you can preset the search index. The videos below enter the fight with it already set to 0D (from quickly lamping 3 times while facing north). It's also important to know that unlike Armos, you cannot pause after the final hit has been dealt to Moldorm, so make sure you're on Cane of Somaria by that point.

Slot9 + Catch

Technique:

  • After killing Moldorm, place a Somaria block roughly in the middle of the room. This isn't precise at all, we just want to give the beams room to travel. This will load object 2C into slot 4.
  • Press A to kick up dash dust just before collecting the Heart Container. This is tricky to do while standing over where the Heart Container will spawn, so make sure you're confident with the timing. My cue is to press A when Moldorm's head disappears. If you don't like this, you can stand to the side and wait for the Container to spawn, then tap A before walking into it. I show this in the video below. If you execute this step correctly, Dash Dust ancilla (1E) will spawn in slot 3, the Heart Container (22) will spawn in slot 2, and the Pendant (29) will spawn in slot 1.
  • Stand under where the Pendant will drop and hold a sword charge. This will put sparkle ancillae into slots 7-9.
  • When the Pendant's shadow is visible, quickly place a somaria block, pop that block, and then immediately place a new one. If done correctly, the beams from the first block will fill slots 0, 2, 3, and 4 (1 being filled by the pendant), and the 2nd block will be misslotted to slot 9. You'll catch the pendant and skip the fanfare.
  • Because we need to do several actions between grabbing the Heart Container and catching the Pendant (hold a sword charge and use Somaria three times), the timing for executing it this way can get really tight if Moldorm died far away from the center of the arena. If you kill him near the edge or on the left side of the middle hole, it can be much easier to do the early slot 9 block strat shown below.

Early Slot9

Technique

  • After defeating Moldorm, place a Somaria block in the room. Make sure its beams will have a bit of room to travel in each direction before colliding with a wall.
  • Create a slot 9 block by first holding sword and then popping the initial block, kicking up dash dush, and then placing a 2nd block in quick succession. If successful, you'll have 2C in slot 9.
  • Dash dust and place another block. This will place dust ancilla (1E) in slot 4 and a new block ancilla (2C) in slot 3. If you don't dust before placing this block, the block will load into slot 4 and delete your slot 9 block, so make sure to include the dash dust step.
  • Dash dust just before grabbing the Heart Container. You can do it like the video above shows, but in this video, I show a safer way of walking into it after the Heart Container is fully loaded. This makes timing your dash press easier. If done correctly, dash ancilla (1E) will spawn in slot 4, the Heart Container (22) will spawn in slot 2 (skipping slot 3 because you should have a block there), and the Pendant (29) will spawn in slot 1.
  • Walk to where the Pendant will fall and wait until its shadow appears. Pop your somaria block before catching it to fill slots 0, 2, 3, and 4 with the somaria beams. You should then skip the fanfare.
  • Because you only have one action to do after collecting the Heart Container (popping your slot 3 somaria block), this is much easier to execute than the Slot 9 + Catch strat if you have to walk a bit to get to the center of the arena where the Pendant will drop.
